Abstract

Cospas-Sarsat is an international satellite-based system designed to assist search and rescue (SAR) operations. The initial system, which relied on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations, was extended with Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites. Currently, a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) component is under evaluation and should be the next generation system for a more effective use of SAR resources. This PhD focuses on establishing detection and localization performances of the MEOSAR service considering conventional TDOA / FDOA techniques and analyzing potential improvements.
